Jeanne grows up worry-free and protected with both of her siblings in African Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills. Their parents are teachers and the family belongs to the Tutsi tribe, a Rwandan minority. Jeanne's life radically changes shortly after her 8th birthday in April 1994 when, almost unbeknownst to the world, the inconceivable happens, genocide. Agitated by fanatics, the formerly peaceful Hutus murder their Tutsi neighbors, militia and farmers race through the country armed with weapons and machetes, murdering at random. Almost a million people lose their lives. This is the story of a child who survived that. And, above all, it is a story in which hope and love survive.
